HAVELOCK HOUSE
his project is a development of Canberra's Havelock House, a house for those with low income or in need of assisted living.
The project requires room for 200 long term residents, and 200 short term residents, as well as large community and retail spaces.
The current concepts play with circulation, use of light and shadows, and public and private spaces.
The project has been modified in multiple ways to benefit the area and the resident: Communal spaces for the short term residents allows for a stronger sense of community. Private 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments share a space between their front doors for a similar community affect. This is called a neighbour space. Rooftop gardens and community gardening plots are also involved to encourage activity and the idea of teamwork. The roof top gardens give a sense of luxury and allow a large open space for the residents to enjoy themselves.
